Safeguards Supervision Mission: Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project(NEWMAP) (P124905)- December 12 - 29, 2016

Consequent upon the clearance of the Safeguard Mission by the Task Team Leader of NEWMAP Dr Amos Abu and the Practice Manager of World Bank;

This is to announce the safeguard Supervision mission scheduled to hold on the 12-29 December 2016.  

The objectives of the mission are to:

Follow up on livelihood implementation with the states of Cross River, Abia, Imo and Edo

2

Follow up with safeguards issues (Old and new sites)

3

Follow up with the implementation of RAP (Resettlement Action Plan)

4

Follow up with the initial states of Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi that have implemented livelihood on status/ issues arising from the livelihood implementation

5

Follow up on site specific citizen engagement indicators in NEWMAP and in particular in RAP implementations to ensure compliance to Bank set target

6

Follow up on subproject implementations using the “gender lens” in accordance with Bank Gender strategy

7

Training and technical support on social accountability issues from the last Mid Term Review

8

Follow up on grievances and risk management

9

Ensure that project operations are carried out in accordance with sound environmental management practices and legal agreement.

10

Ensure compliance with the safeguard and loan agreement requirements, and case of potential noncompliance

11

Ensure compliance with the Bank’s Safeguards policies, including: assessing the capacity to and adequacy to implement safeguards instruments and arrangements, including Environmental Management Plans or other related instruments)

12

Assess quality and effectiveness of implementation and monitoring of mitigation measures

13

Technical support on pending issues from the last Mid Term Review (MTR)

Mission arrives Abia State from Cross-River state On the 18th of December,2016 and wraps-up on 20th Of December. The facilitators for this

programme include: Chudi Okafor (Snr. Social Development Specialist),  Nneka Okereke (Operation Officer, OPCS), Emmanuel Ngollo (Environmental Specialist),

Ruth Peter Mshelia (National Safeguard Officcer FPMU), Abia NEWMAP SPMU and The communities.
